TOK Essay Title #4 Tips (for every year, actually)
Think like a lawyer with your examples
Make your real-world examples do analytical work, not decorative work. It's not enough to describe an example that relates to your topic — you need to show how it changes or supports your claim. Ask yourself: if I removed this example, would my argument actually weaken? If not, the example isn't pulling its weight.
Avoid common examples that you learned in class
Avoid the most overused TOK examples unless you can say something genuinely new about them. Certain examples show up in essay after essay because they're easy reference points, but examiners have seen them dozens of times. A slightly less obvious example, well-chosen and well-explained, signals original thinking rather than a search-engine shortcut.
